Misogyny and catcalling was the impetus for the song “New Girl”. There was one week where we were cat called probably 10 times. We were fed up and wanted to write a song about men not respecting women's boundaries, especially in public. We started working on the song with Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene. He has been a huge supporter of our music and gave some suggestions, but didn’t want to take any credit because he is such a great guy. He is super supportive of young artists, especially young women, and wants to help us stay true to ourselves and our sound. We produced this one ourselves with Guillermo Subauste engineering and co-producing. We really wanted to create a punchy song that was a bit more melodic that built into a bigger, layered sound at the end.
